Armenia welcomes Biden’s genocide recognition
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan (pictured) welcomed on Saturday comments from the United States President Joe Biden defining the Ottoman Empire’s aggression against the Armenian people as “genocide.”
Pashinyan stated in an open letter to the US president that the recognition is a “much-needed message to the international community,” adding that it “comes to reaffirm the primacy of human rights and values in international relations.” Moreover, he also asserted that the move is a “powerful step towards justice.”
Biden recognized the Armenian genocide earlier today in an official statement commemorating the event. Turkey has slammed the decision, saying that it would open a “deep wound” in relations with the US.
