Asia mixed after Japan data, Nikkei plunges

Shares on the major stock market indexes in the Asia-Pacific region traded mixed on Wednesday after Japan’s Manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for November slightly missed the mark.

In other news, Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno took a jab at China’s development of hypersonic weapons, calling it a threat to the region’s safety.

Shanghai Composite rose 0.29% at 6:59 am CET, with Shenzhen Composite up by 0.22% at the same time. Japan’s Nikkei 225 tumbled 1.58%, or 471 points at the close, dragged by Z Holdings’ 4.37% plunge. South Korea’s Kospi decreased 0.11% at 7:16 am CET, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng concurrently gained 0.62%.

The Australian S&P/ASX 200 slid 0.15% as the session ended, while the dollar went 0.17% down against the yen, going for ¥114.9560 at 7:18 am CET.
