Asia trades mixed ahead of tech earnings
Major Asian stock markets traded mixed on Thursday as investors awaited earnings reports from several major tech firms, including China’s Lenovo, Dell and HP. On Wednesday, a couple of major acquisition deals were announced in the United States, as Amazon revealed it will acquire MGM for $8.4 billion, while Mondelez will buy Chipita for around $2 billion. Meanwhile, Jeff Bezos stated he will step down as Amazon’s CEO on July 5.
The Nikkei 225 dropped 0.63% at 4:47 am CET, while Hang Seng was down by 0.11% at the same time, and the S&P/ASX 200 gained 0.13%. The Kospi Composite declined by 0.63% at 4:28 am CET.
In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite added 0.42% at 4:47 am CET, and the Shenzhen Composite was up by 0.59% at 4:49 am CET.
The dollar traded 0.07% lower compared to the yen, selling for 109.0830 at 4:50 am CET.
