Asia trades mixed with COVID-19 in focus
Major stock markets in Asia traded mixed on Thursday amid fresh concerns surrounding the COVID-19 situation. The daily case figure in South Korean capital Seoul hit another record high at 2,268, as the country recorded the first Omicron variant infection. In data, Japan’s consumer confidence report is expected later in the day.
The Nikkei 225 dropped 0.66% at 4:35 am CET, while the S&P/ASX 200 was down by 0.16% at 4:39 am CET. The Kospi Composite added 1.17% at 4:20 am CET, and Hang Seng was up by 0.19% at 4:40 am CET.
In mainland China, the Shanghai Composite stood flat at 4:30 am CET, while the Shenzhen Composite lost 0.20% at 4:36 am CET.
The dollar traded 0.19% higher against the yen and sold for 113.0235 at 4:43 am CET.
