Asia trades mostly up with data in focus
Equities on major stock markets in Japan and China were mostly higher on Friday following upbeat economic data reports. The Hang Seng in Hong Kong, the S&P/ASX 200 in Australia and the Kospi in Seoul were closed amid Christmas holidays.
Retail sales in Japan increased 0.7% year-over-year in November, the country’s Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry unveiled, while the Japanese seasonally adjusted unemployment rate slid 0.2 percentage points to 2.9% in the same month.
The Nikkei 225 was virtually unchanged at the closing bell, decreasing 0.04%, while the Shanghai Composite and the Shenzhen Composite 0.92% and 0.54% at 7:20 am CET, respectively.
