Asian markets mixed as pandemic slows down
Asian markets were mixed on Monday as coronavirus pandemic fears were cushioned by optimism over the reopening of economies as many countries are seeing a decline in new daily cases from the disease. Meanwhile, reports said that Japan is preparing more funds to help its economy fight off the impact of COVID-19 and that Apple is preparing to move one fifth of its production from China to India.
The Nikkei 225 rose 1.40% at 7:31 am CET. The dollar gained 0.29% to go for 106.9555 against the yen at 7:37 am CET.
The Shanghai Composite declined 0.08% at 7:31 am CET and the Shenzhen Composite lost 0.43% at 7:33 am CET. However, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng jumped 1.72% at 7:34 am CET.
South Korea’s Kospi lost 0.23% at 7:34 am CET, but the Indian Nifty 50 was up 1.05% at 7:20 am CET. In the Pacific region, Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 jumped 1.43% at 7:36 am CET.
