Austin vows to uphold civilian control of military
Retired General Lloyd Austin, United States President-elect Joe Biden’s nominee to lead the Pentagon, revealed, if elected to the post, he intends to uphold the principle of civilian control of the military.
“The safety and security of our democracy demands competent civilian control of our armed forces, the subordination of military power to the civil,” said Austin.
He noted his plan is to deter war and protect the nation’s security, also promising to ensure a working environment free of hate as the job of the Department of Defense is to keep America safe from enemies and not allow them within its own ranks.
