Baerbock to meet Blinken in US on January 5
German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock will travel to Washington on January 5 and meet there with United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken, her department’s representative Christopher Burger stated on Monday.
Burger stressed that “the situation around the Ukrainian border, as well as the upcoming multilateral dialogue formats with Russia, will play a special role” in the talks.
Back in December, US President Joe Biden said that his administration is planning to develop “strong ties” with then-new German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s government. Earlier, the two countries reportedly discussed the tensions regarding the Nord Stream 2 pipeline and its operations, with Washington allegedly preparing to withdraw its sanctions on the project.
