Beijing’s South China Sea claims ‘unlawful’- Australia
The Australian government submitted a declaration to the United Nations in which it rejects Beijing’s claims in the South China Sea, asserting that they do not comply with international law.
“Australia rejects China’s claim to ‘historic rights’ or ‘maritime rights and interests’ as established in the ‘long course of historical practice’ in the South China Sea,” the statement read.
Previously, the United States stated China’s claims to offshore resources across most of the sea are “completely unlawful” and accused the Asian country of engaging in a “bullying campaign.”
