Belgium looking to buy 10,000 Merck COVID pills
The Belgian government is in negotiations to acquire 10,000 of Merck’s COVID-19 pills, Health Minister Franck Vandenbroucke told reporters on Wednesday.
However, Vandenbroucke noted that the government would rather buy Merck’s drug in a joint effort with other European countries. Belgium would participate in the joint procurement If this process gets launched, the minister added.
The pill, jointly developed by Merck & Co. Inc. and Ridgeback Biotherapeutics, is determined to reduce the risk of hospitalization or death caused by COVID-19 by 30%.
