Blinken: Russia must give proof of de-escalation

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken stated on Tuesday in his latest call with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that Washington still requires Moscow to provide evidence of a “verifiable, credible, meaningful de-escalation” of its tensions with Ukraine.

The department’s statement noted the US is looking forward to receiving Russia’s proposals for a security deal. Blinken also reaffirmed that “while further Russian aggression against Ukraine would result in a swift, severe, and united Transatlantic response, we remain committed to the diplomatic path and believe that a window remains to resolve the crisis peacefully.”

Earlier in the day, Russia announced its plan to reduce the number of its troops near the border with Ukraine. Kiev then said it will believe the news once the “real withdrawal” happens. Later, US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield remarked there is still no evidence Russia has begun the pullback.
