Brazil calls on world to share vaccines, curb virus spread
Brazil’s Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga (pictured) urged on Friday countries to distribute COVID-19 vaccines they have available to the South American country, stressing that the move would help slow the virus spread on a global scale.
During a briefing at the World Health Organization (WHO), Queiroga described the situation in the country as “critical,” and underling that refraining from vaccine nationalism is the only way for the world to “avoid the proliferation of new variants.”
Four coronavirus vaccines, developed by Pfizer, CoronaVac, Johnson & Johnson, and AstraZeneca, are currently in use in Brazil. The country’s health authorities ruled earlier this week against approving the Sputnik V COVID jab.
