CDC finds 35% of virus patients had ‘prolonged illness’
United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published a survey that showed that 35% of patients who had experienced “milder” coronavirus symptoms have not “returned to their usual state of health” within 2 to 3 weeks after receiving a positive test result.
Among the survey respondents, 26% of those aged 18-34 years, 32% of those aged 35-49 years, and 47% of those older than 50 have said that they had not made their full recovery within 14-21 days after the test date.
“Prolonged illness is well described in adults with severe COVID-19 requiring hospitalization, especially among older adults,” the CDC noted in its report, adding that the “findings indicate that COVID-19 can result in prolonged illness even among persons with milder outpatient illness, including young adults.”
