China to donate $30M more to WHO
China will donate another $30 million to the World Health Organization (WHO) amid the coronavirus crisis, the country’s Foreign Ministry stated.
“China has decided to donate additional $30 million in cash to WHO to support its global fight against #COVID19, in particular strengthening developing countries’ health systems,” the ministry’s spokesperson Hua Chunying said in a tweet. “At this crucial moment, supporting WHO is supporting Multilateralism and Global Solidarity,” she added and pointed out Beijing already donated $20 million to WHO in March.
The move comes just over a week after the United States suspended funding for the WHO as US President Donald Trump accused the organization of being “China-centric” despite Washington providing more funding for it than Beijing.
