China to launch initiative on global data-safety rules – report
China is planning to introduce its own set of regulations regarding the security of data on the internet, aimed at countering the United States’ efforts to get countries across the world to abstain from using the Chinese technology, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
According to the sources close to the matter, Asian country’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi is set to unveil the initiative on Tuesday at a seminar in Beijing.
The move comes amid Washington’s efforts to protect the data of internet users around the world from alleged “intrusions by malign actors,” reportedly related to the Chinese Communist Party. Huawei Technologies Co, ByteDance Ltd.’s TikTok and Tencent Holdings Ltd.’s WeChat are some of the companies whose operations have come under the intense scrutiny of the US.
