China under-reported COVID-19 figures – report
An intelligence report submitted to the White House claimed that Beijing intentionally under-reported real figures of coronavirus cases and deaths in China, according to Bloomberg News, which cited three American officials who have read the report.
Meanwhile, Jia county, with 600,000 residents, in China’s Henan province, announced a total lockdown amid increased concerns of the second wave of COVID-19 infection, the South China Morning Post reported on Wednesday, citing information from the authorities.
Henan’s southeast borders with Hubei province, whose capital of Wuhan was the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak that later became a global pandemic. A hospital in Jia is being currently suspected as being the source of three new confirmed cases. Reportedly, a doctor who has returned from Wuhan and resumed work after a mandatory 14-day self-quarantine tested positive on Saturday.
