Chinese diplomat refuses to meet US counterpart – report
The Chinese government refused a meeting between its Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Yucheng and the United States Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman (pictured), the Financial Times reported. According to multiple sources, Sherman was supposed to meet Le during her tour of the region later in the month.
China instead proposed a meeting with Xie Feng, in charge of policy planning for North America, people familiar with the decision said. In May, reports emerged claiming Beijing also refused talks between US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Xu Qiliang, vice-chair of China’s Central Military Commission and Beijing’s most senior military officer.
