Compensation not pre-condition for returning to JCPOA – Zarif
Tehran doesn’t consider a potential compensation for the United States’ withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) as a “pre-condition” for Iran to return to the nuclear deal, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif stressed on Sunday.
“JCPOA is not renegotiable. If they [US] want to talk about arms, they should look at the statistics. Is the US prepared to stop selling arms to the region?” Zarif told CNN, adding that the United States is the “side that has not been able to show that it fulfills its promises” agreed under the Iran nuclear deal.
The minister claimed that Washington’s attempts to “impose a full economic war on Iran” dragged Tehran away from compliance with the JCPOA, underscoring that the Biden administration “needs to show its bona fides” to get back to the deal.
