Consumer confidence in euro area down in December
The economic sentiment among consumers and businesses in the Eurozone declined in December in comparison to the previous month, the European Commission stated in its report revealed on Friday.
The Economic Sentiment Indicator (ESI) went down by 2.1 points to 114.5 in the European Union, and 2.3 points to 115.3 in the Eurozone, but still remained, as the document noted, at historically high levels. Meanwhile, the Employment Expectations Indicator (EEI) declined by 1.4 points to 114.2 in the EU, and 1.6 points to 114.0 in the euro area.
The worsening in the EU was led by a decrease in services. On the other hand, the most significant improvement was noted in industry and construction.
