Conte against ‘veto rights’ on recovery disbursement – report
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte (pictured) criticized the idea of giving the member states more power over the allocation of funds under the European Union COVID-19 recovery fund, Politico wrote on Saturday, citing an Italian official.
The official asserted that such measures would be “unacceptable from the legal and political point of view,” but also stressed that Conte’s reprimands of the proposal shouldn’t be seen as a dismissal of the deal proposed by European Council President Charles Michel earlier today.
Conte has backed Michel’s initial plan the day before, stating that reaching an agreement is “in the interests of all European citizens,” not Italy’s only.
