COVID-19 figures in Italy continue expansion
Italy detected 23,477 new COVID-19 cases and 555 coronavirus-related deaths over the past day, the Health Ministry’s data revealed on Thursday, marking a continuous rise despite the full lockdown that has been in effect during the holiday season.
The last time that Italy registered this many positive cases was at the start of December. The regions of Veneto and Lombardy are currently facing the worst outbreak in the country.
With 2.1 million cases and over 74,000 fatalities, Italy ends the year as the European country most impacted by the pandemic.
