Cuomo proposes NY state budget for 2022
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (pictured) unveiled on Tuesday the two state budget proposals for 2022.
The official said that the state is facing a $15 billion deficit, asserting that it was critical for the federal government to provide aid to New York. With insufficient funding, NY will be forced to cut school, Medicaid, and other funding, Cuomo warned. To help narrow the budget gap, the Empire State could raise taxes, legalize marijuana sales, and allow mobile sports betting, although it wouldn’t be enough to overcome the shortfall.
“We want federal help, but we want the help that is fair,” Cuomo stated. “What is fair? Fair funding from Washington would be $15 billion of the $350 billion. Considering what we went through I think it’s a modest request from Washington.”
