DAX, CAC 40 turn to losses as virus worries rise
The German DAX and the CAC 40 turned to losses on Wednesday, while the FTSE 100 trimmed earlier gains, amid rising concerns regarding the ongoing wave of coronavirus infections across the continent, and its effects on the economy.
While both France’s finance minister and British foreign secretary stressed that no additional measures will be needed to curb the spread of the virus, Russia, Hungary, Poland, Czechia, Austria, Germany, and Slovakia all reported daily increases in infections that were either at or near record highs.
The DAX dropped 0.33% at 11:16 am CET, while the CAC 40 lost 0.17% at the same time. A minute later, in London, the FTSE 100 advanced by 0.12%. The euro plunged 0.35% versus the dollar, selling for 1.12108 at 11:19 am CET, while the pound declined by 0.13% compared to the United States currency, going for 1.33621 at the same time.
