DoJ official to resign over Trump-era subpoenas – report
United States Justice Department’s National Security Division head John Demers (pictured) is expected to step down over secret subpoenas the DoJ issued for records from journalists and Democratic lawmakers, US media reported on Monday. Demers is expected to resign by the end of the week, unnamed DoJ officials said, and he should be succeeded by acting US attorney in the Eastern District of New York Mark Lesko.
Last week, US Inspector General Michael Horowitz announced an investigation into the subpoenas collecting data from reporters from The New York Times, The Washington Post and CNN, as well as a number of Democrats, including Adam Schiff, chair of the House Intelligence Committee. Schiff also called for former Attorneys General Bill Barr and Jeff Sessions to testify on the issue.
