Dorsey’s Square changes name to Block
Square Inc. unveiled on Wednesday that it will be changing its name to Block, with the new name encompassing the company as a corporate entity. The name change will be in effect from December 10.
According to the released statement, the name change allows the Square brand to only be used for the company’s Seller business “which provides an integrated ecosystem of commerce solutions, business software, and banking services for sellers.”
Block will continue to trade under the ticker SQ, and the company’s CEO Jack Dorsey commented on the development: “Block is a new name, but our purpose of economic empowerment remains the same. No matter how we grow or change, we will continue to build tools to help increase access to the economy.”
