Dow Jones extends gains, surges over 200 points
The Dow Jones Industrial Average soared over 200 points on Monday after having started the session almost flat. At the same time, the Nasdaq 100 sank deeper in red, almost doubling its losses from the session’s start.
The discrepancy between the two benchmarks was seemingly prompted by the rise in the yield on the benchmark ten-year US Treasury.
The Dow Jones jumped 0.64%, or 220 points, at 9:54 am ET, while the S&P 500 lost 0.27% at the same time. A minute later, the Nasdaq 100 tumbled 1.42%, dragged mostly by shares of Apple, Advanced Micro Devices, and Nvidia. The euro lost 0.19% versus the dollar at 9:56 am ET, selling for 1.17008.
