ECB fiscal aid to be at least as extended as Fed’s – Villeroy
Member of the European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council Francois Villeroy de Galhau stated on Monday that that institution’s stimulus, introduced to combat the crisis the COVID-19 pandemic caused, will be extended at least as much as the one created by the United States’ Federal Reserve (Fed).
Speaking to Le Figaro, the Bank of France Governor also noted his country’s economy is “on the road” to emerge from the crisis at an “accelerating” pace. Villeroy projected the output to grow by 5.75% in 2020, “more than the European Union’s average of 4.6%,” and economic activity to return to its pre-pandemic level “a little earlier than expected, from the start of 2022.”
Villeroy recently praised the measures the ECB has taken to combat the crisis and urged it to keep implementing “accommodative monetary policy.”
