ECB sees inflation jump as largely temporary – Lagarde
European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde said on Monday that the ECB maintains its view that the recent rise in inflation rate in the Eurozone is “largely temporary.”
Speaking before the European Parliament’s Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, Lagarde noted that the impact of factors driving the inflation up “should dissipate” in 2022.
The Eurozone economic recovery is “increasingly advanced,” according to Lagarde, who attributed it partly to mass coronavirus vaccination efforts and the subsequent, less strict measures to combat the virus. “The growth outlook continues to be uncertain and heavily dependent on the evolution of the pandemic, but risks to growth are broadly balanced,” she stressed.
