Ecuador to recount votes in presidential election
Ecuador’s National Electoral Council said that it would conduct a partial recount in the country’s presidential election amid a close race and allegations of election fraud made by one candidate.
The top electoral body plans a recount in 17 provinces as conservative candidate Guillermo Lasso holds a narrow lead over indigenous leader Yaku Perez in the race that will determine who faces off on April 11 with the first round’s winner, Andres Arauz.
Perez demanded a full recount of the vote having alleged voter fraud in last week’s election. His supporters protested outside the National Electoral Council in Quito earlier this week.
