EMA investigating blood clot reports after AstraZeneca jab
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) said on Thursday that it is conducting a “full investigation” into reports of blood clots in people who received the AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine, adding that there have been 30 reported cases of thromboembolic events so far, “no higher than the number seen in the general population.”
“There is currently no indication that vaccination has caused these conditions, which are not listed as side effects with this vaccine. The position of EMA’s safety committee PRAC is that the vaccine’s benefits continue to outweigh its risks and the vaccine can continue to be administered while investigation of cases of thromboembolic events is ongoing,” the EMA said.
Earlier, Denmark, Norway and Italy suspended the use of AstraZeneca’s vaccine, while Austria suspended one batch of the jab following some reports of the formation of blood clots in people who have received it.
