England football team won’t play Russia ‘for foreseeable future’
English football governing body the Football Association (FA) said on Sunday that the England national team will not play against Russia “for the foreseeable future,” including matches at all levels and age groups.
The FA stated the decision was made “out of solidarity with Ukraine and to wholeheartedly condemn the atrocities being committed by the Russian leadership.”
Meanwhile, French Football Federation President Noel Le Graet said he will not oppose banning Russia from participating in the 2022 World Cup as “the world of sport, and football in particular, cannot stay neutral.” The Czech Republic, Poland and Sweden, who are in the same bracket as Russia in the second round of qualifications for the tournament, refused to play against the country after its invasion of Ukraine.
