EU confident about reaching vaccination goal
President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, asserted on Friday she was “extremely confident” that Europe would reach the goal of vaccinating 70% of its adult population against the COVID-19 by the end of summer.
Speaking to Italian newspaper la Republica, Von der Leyen revealed she was in contact with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson regarding vaccine exports and added European leaders would discuss the issue next Thursday.
“I ask for greater openness as Europe is among the regions in the world that exports the most, but reciprocity is needed,” she commented on the ongoing discussions between the European Union, the United Kingdom and the United States.
