EU, J&J agree on deal for 200M COVID-19 vaccine doses
The European Union (EU) and US-based pharmaceutical giant Johnson&Johnson concluded “exploratory talks” on initial purchasing of 200 million doses of the potential coronavirus vaccine, the European Commission said in a statement on Thursday.
According to the statement, the EU “could further purchase up to an additional 200 million vaccine doses” if it proves effective and necessary. “The exploratory talks concluded today are intended to result in an Advance Purchase Agreement to be financed with the Emergency Support Instrument,” the Commission said.
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen asserted that “today’s talks bring us [EU] closer” to getting a “safe and effective” vaccine against the infection.
