EU official: Last hours of Brexit process
European Commissioner for Financial Services Mairead McGuinness (pictured) stated on Monday the negotiations between the European Union and the United Kingdom over their post-Brexit trade relations were in its “last hours” and “not looking good” as Britain “fails to understand the need to compromise.”
Still, McGuinness expressed her optimism the issues regarding Northern Ireland and its connections with Ireland could “be fixed” during or after today’s meeting of European Commission Vice President for Interinstitutional Relations Maros Sefcovic and British Minister for the Cabinet Office Michael Gove.
Earlier in the day, it was reported British Prime Minister Boris Johnson was planning to withdraw from the negotiations with the bloc “within hours” due to some of its last-minute demands.
