EU on track to offer shots to 70% of adults by end of July – Von der Leyen
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen stated on Thursday that the rate of COVID-19 vaccination is around 30 doses per second, and the union will have received some 260 million doses by the end of the week. She added the EU has so far administered 200 million doses and is on track to offer shots to 70% of all adults by the end of July.
Von der Leyen said the bloc has so far exported 220 million coronavirus vaccine doses, including to the COVAX program. Announcing a deal with BioNTech and Pfizer for another 1.8 billion doses, she explained the EU will “need booster vaccinations. We also want to offer children and young people a vaccination offer as soon as possible. And we have to react quickly with improved vaccines in the event of dangerous mutations.”
