EU: Tensions in S. China sea endanger stability
The European Union released a statement on Saturday saying that tensions in the South China Sea endanger peace and stability in the region.
The union also singled out the increased number of Chinese ships currently stationed at the Whitsun Reef, as a reason for the increase in tensions. Furthermore, the EU reiterated that it was “committed to secure, free and open maritime supply routes in the Indo-Pacific, in full compliance with international law,” and that it strongly opposed “any unilateral actions that could undermine regional stability and the international rules-based order.”
Earlier this month, China blamed the United States on increasing tensions in the region, as the US stated it was committed to a free Indo-Pacific.
