EU to extend Xinjiang-related sanctions – report
European Union’s Committee of Permanent Representatives II (Coreper II) approved “without discussion” the motion to reaffirm the bloc’s sanctions against Chinese officials alleged to have taken part in human rights abuses in the Xinjiang region, South China Morning Post reported on Wednesday, citing multiple sources familiar with the matter.
According to the report, the renewal could come as soon as December 6 and is not likely to be preceded by a debate.
Should the EU agree on the measures in early December, they would come into effect on March 22, the outlet concluded.
