Europe closes higher after UK says Brexit talks over
Major stock indexes in Europe finished the last trading session of the week higher after the conclusion of the Brexit summit. In a statement released following the meeting, Downing Street said that Brussels “effectively ended” the talks by not budging on its negotiating position. However, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen countered the statement by asserting the bloc will “intensify” talks with London next week.
The FTSE 100 rose 1.49% at the close. Rolls-Royce Holdings plc surged 10.53%. The DAX gained 1.62% as Daimler AG jumped 5.48%. The CAC 40 advanced 2.03% with LVMH SE climbing 7.72%.
The euro and the pound were both up 0.07% against the dollar at 5:29 pm CET, selling for $1.17162 and $1.29166 respectively.
