Europe closes mostly higher amid upbeat ECB’s predictions
Major European stock market indexes ended the session mostly in the green on Monday as the investors digested the optimistic recovery forecasts by the European Central Bank’s board members.
The markets across Europe weathered somewhat bleak sentiment on Wall Street, seemingly helped with the developments in COVID-19 vaccine rollout and upbeat remarks coming from the central bank’s officials.
The DAX ended the session 0.13% lower after having reached an all-time high shortly after the session began. Covestro dropped 2.08%, as the benchmark’s worst performer. The CAC 40 gained 0.24% at the closing bell as TotalEnergies strengthened 1.44%. At the same time, the FTSE 100 moved up by 0.18% with Shell jumping 2.68%. The euro advanced 0.12% versus the dollar, selling for 1.21232 at 5:39 pm CET, while the pound stood unchanged versus the greenback, going for 1.41109 a minute later.
