Europe opens with gains amid vaccine optimism
European markets opened higher on Monday after AstraZeneca and Oxford University announced that their COVID-19 vaccine showed an average of 70% efficacy in trials. During the session, investors will also be paying attention to preliminary reports on manufacturing and services in November for the European Union, the United Kingdom and Germany.
The DAX started the trading day by increasing 0.50% at 9 am CET as Adidas led the gains by rising 1.07% at 9:04 am CET. The FTSE 100 opened 0.26% in the green at 9 am CET, with Rolls-Royce jumping 4.03% at 9:02 am CET. The CAC 40 in Paris was 0.87% higher at 9 am CET as Credit Agricole increased by 2.84% at 9:03 am CET.
The euro gained 0.09% against the dollar to go for 1.18686 at 9:02 am CET while the pound was up by 0.31% compared to the greenback at 9:03 am CET, changing hands for 1.3338.
