Eurozone trade surplus at €7.5 billion in May
Euro area trade surplus amounted to €7.5 billion in May, according to the first estimate by Eurostat released on Friday. In the same month, the entire European Union (EU27) registered a trade surplus of €7.9 billion.
Exports of goods from the Eurozone to the rest of the world stood at €188.2 billion in May, up 31.9% year-on-year, while imports soared 35.2% on a yearly basis to reach €180.7 billion. Intra-Eurozone trade surged 45.4% from May 2020 to €181.5 billion in May 2021.
EU27 exports grew 32.8% annually to €172.3 billion in May, while imports came in at €164.4 billion in the same month, jumping 33.7% compared to May 2020. Intra-EU trade amounted to €276.9 billion in May 2021, 41.6% higher compared to the corresponding month the previous year.
