Fauci: Face masks may still be needed in 2022
United States National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Director Anthony Fauci said on Sunday that Americans may still need to wear face masks in 2022 due to the coronavirus, but noted the US could reach “a significant degree of normality” by the end of this year.
“We’re going to have a significant degree of normality beyond the terrible burden that all of us have been through over the last year,” Fauci told CNN.
The epidemiologist noted masks will no longer be needed when the number of new infections “goes way down and the overwhelming majority of people in the population are vaccinated.”
