FB removes networks linked to Stone, Bolsonaro
Facebook Inc. revealed on Wednesday that it removed two separate networks wit alleged connections to United States President Donald Trump’s former associate Roger Stone (pictured) and Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro over violating the company’s “policy against foreign interference and coordinated inauthentic behavior (CIB).”
The social media platform had eliminated 54 Facebook accounts, 50 pages, and four Instagram accounts that posted, among other US politics-related themes, mostly about “Roger Stone and his Pages, websites, books, and media appearances,” and his trial. This activity has been attributed to the “Proud Boys, a hate group” Facebook banned two years ago.
In Brazil, 35 Facebook accounts, 14 pages, one group and 38 Instagram accounts were cleared from the platform. According to findings of an investigation conducted by Facebook, “some of the employees of the offices of” Jair Bolsonaro and his sons, Eduardo and Flavio, were connected to a network that posted mostly about Brazilian politics, “criticism of the political opposition,” and the coronavirus pandemic.
