FDA backs US companies to produce hand sanitizers
The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Friday it will not sanction the companies for manufacturing their own hand sanitizers amid the coronavirus-caused shortage. It will allow firms to produce alcohol-based hand sanitizers “either for public distribution or for their own internal use.”
“We are aware of significant supply disruptions for alcohol-based hand sanitizers. Many manufacturers make hand sanitizers, and several have indicated that they are working to increase supply,” the FDA said in a statement, providing “flexible” guidance for companies in an attempt to meet increasing demand.
