Ford in talks to build electric transmissions system in UK – report
Ford Motor Company is in discussions to build a new electric transmissions system at its Halewood plant in the United Kingdom, according to a report published by Sky News on Thursday.
The report suggests that Ford will make its decision between its UK and German plants in the next few weeks, as it plans to shift to an all-electric vehicle production by 2030. People familiar with the matter noted that Ford will most likely invest “hundreds of millions of pounds” in the development of the eTrans production site.
The UK’s car industry has seen an ever-increasing shift to electric vehicle manufacturing, with both the Ford-backed Rivian and Stellantis having plans to produce electric cars in the country and Nissan opening a gigafactory for the making of batteries for electric vehicles.
