France ready to discuss waiving vaccine patents
French President Emmanuel Macron said on Friday his country is ready to discuss waiving COVID-19 vaccine patent protections, however insisting there are more important moves that could be made to speed up the pace of the inoculations.
Macron argued it’s critical that the United States and the United Kingdom end export restrictions on COVID-19 vaccines and related raw materials.
The statement comes as a follow-up to the proposal made by the Biden administration about waiving jab patents in order to make vaccines more accessible worldwide. Meanwhile, Germany rejected the move saying the intellectual property is not an issue, but the production capacities and the matter of ensuring the quality.
