Gaza death toll rises to 230 as rocket exchanges continue
The Gaza Ministry of Health reported on Thursday that so far 230 Palestinians have died in the nearly two-week-long conflict between Israel and Hamas along the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
The Palestine body reported that among those killed there were 65 children and 39 women, while the number of people injured rose to 1710. According to Israeli media, however, Israel’s military believed that this number may actually be higher, as the army accused Hamas of under-reporting casualty figures to cover how many terrorists were killed in the raids, with Israel standing by its statements that most of the people killed belonged to terror groups, primarily Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad.
Meanwhile, after an eight-hour calm in the region brought hopes that a ceasefire was in sight, rockets were fired towards the south and central parts of Israel, with the country retaliating and hitting Hamas attack tunnels and launchpads.
