Greece to ask ECB to continue buying its bonds – report
Greece’s central bank intends to make an appeal to the European Central Bank (ECB) for it to continue buying the country’s bonds after the Pandemic emergency purchase program (PEPP) ends in March.
According to a Financial Times report issued on Sunday, some members from the ECB noted that they are agreeable to finding ways to keep buying Greek bonds for the whole of next year. However, Greek officials believe that legal hurdles might mean that ECB purchases are reduced much more than those of other countries.
The ECB changed its policy towards buying Greek bonds when it started PEPP, as before that it was forbidden for the central bank to do it as Greece is the only Eurozone country below the investment grade.
