Haiti asks US for military support
The United States State Department confirmed earlier reports that the Haitian government has asked for security and military assistance from the country.
According to a spokesperson, the US remains in regular contact with Haiti on how it can best assist, and stated that the country has requested “security assistance and an investigation,” following the assassination of its president. Haiti’s Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph asserted that the government believes “our partners can assist the national police in resolving the situation.”
Lastly, reports seem to indicate that the number of troops requested by Haiti is somewhere in the 500 range and that the government will also be asking the United Nations for help as well.
