HK activist Wong pleads guilty to illegal assembly
Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong pleaded guilty to organizing and participating in an unlawful assembly during 2019 anti-government protests in the Chinese autonomous region. Wong’s fellow activists Agnes Chow and Ivan Lam also pleaded guilty.
“I am persuaded that, neither prison bars, nor election bans, nor any other arbitrary powers would stop us from activism. What we are doing now is to explain the value of freedom to the world,” Wong said before entering the courtroom.
Wong was arrested in September for “participating in an unauthorized assembly” in October last year and violating Hong Kong’s anti-mask law.
